Why Diversity is so Hard to Get Right When Hiring New Talent

Shane Bernstein - Apr 27, 2020
Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) in today’s business is a necessity to empower growth, change and continuous innovation. Unfortunately, companies don’t execute DEI very well. There’s a myriad of reasons for the lack of execution, but the primary reason is bias.
All Humans are Bias
While some humans are knowingly biased in some capacity, most are unknowingly bias. Identifying and trying to correct those biases is a losing battle. It’s human nature.
Leveraging AI to Increase Diversity and Inclusion
In theory, it makes perfect sense. Unfortunately at this time, AI technology is not an exact science. To achieve DEI objectives, AI is not where it needs to be to strike a non-bias balance in the recruitment process. Humans still seem to be stronger.
Achieving a Consistent DEI Outcome
We’ve done a lot of testing in this area, and the only way we’ve successfully measured consistent results is integrating DEI targets into the platform architecture. By design, we aim to achieve 50% DEI across all results, with a minimum of 25%.
